Coeloplana agniae is a benthic ctenophore and belongs to the Plactytenida order. Indeed, this order is characterised by the absence of the eight comb rows usually found in ctenophores but bear two tentacles. On each side of the body, the extensible and retractable tentacles are carrying tentilla and colloblasts, an adhesive type of cell specific to Ctenophores which allow Coeloplana agniae to catch the plankton. It is a body-flattened animal, quite small and can assume different shapes.
Its natural habitat is the Heron reef slope. There, it can find suitable substrates where it stays or creep on it.
