Biogeographic distribution

Myzostomids have been documented from many marine regions worldwide (Lanterbecq et al. 2009). The majority of the described species (>100 species) have been found within the warm, tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region, however some species have also been located in the colder waters of the world, such as the Arctic and Antarctic oceans (Lanterbecq et al. 2009). The species richness of Myzostomids is said to be highest in the areas where their host (Echinodermata: Crinoid) diversity is  highest (Lanterbecq et al. 2009).
