Biogeographic distribution


Crabs belonging to the genus Hyastenus are found mainly around Australia, mostly in the North-East part of the continent, where the Great Barrier Reef is located. They are also found in the North Pacific Ocean with higher concentrations in the East part of Asia, ranging from the North of Japan to Eastern China. Smaller concentrations of Hyastenus are found in the South-East part of Africa and in the Arabian Sea. The genus also exists in regions near Hawaiian islands in the Pacific Ocean.
