Threats from Humans
S. luhuanus is an important harvested molluscan food source in many countries throught the Indo-Pacific. It acts as a good source of protein for when other forms of food are scarce (e.g. fish) (Poiner & Catterall, 1988).
A study performed by Poiner & Catterall (1988) found that populations of S. luhuanus in Papua New Guinea could survive exploitation by humans, with the harvesting practices causing only minor long term effects on population densities in exploited areas. |
