Content Summary

Temora turbinata have the same basic body plan of all Copepoda. A six-segmented thorax and 5-segmented abdomen forming the cephalasome with Telson and "feet" forming the urosome. The head is fused with the first 1-2 thoracic segments (somites).

This Calanoid copepod is small and displays some sexual dimorphism, with body length also varying depending on age and seasonal variation.
Male: 0.9mm - 1.5mm
Female: 1mm - 1.6mm

Males possess a geniculate right antennule for holding the female during mating. Females carry large amounts of eggs inside cephalasome which is visible by dark colouration. Later in mating cycle, eggs are laid down to the urosome in egg sacs which are then fertilised before release.
