H. leucospilota can be found at various locations across the Great Barrier Reef, in Australia.  In particular, they are very abundant in inner reef flat surrounding the coral cay of Heron Island. 

 
 Image 3.  Heron Island is a part of the Capricornia Cays National Park and is home to a rich diversity of species.  H. leucospilota is one of the many species found on the reef flat.  There is also an abudance of other invertebrates such as corals and sponges and vertebrates including numberous fish species.
